7 wineries in Méntrida sign a manifesto against photovoltaic macro-projects
7 wineries in Méntrida have signed a manifesto to take a stand against the photovoltaic macro-projects that threaten our terroir. The manifesto is entitled "In defense of the territory, the landscape and biodiversity. In defense of the vineyards and our way of life" and has been made public today to oppose the avalanche of photovoltaic projects that several multinationals are planning to install in the region of Méntrida.
This initiative of 7 wineries is NOT against renewable energies but IS against the installation of photovoltaic macro-projects in areas with high ecological value. Only in Méntrida there are 2,400 hectares threatened, which means 27% of its municipal area, affecting not only the biodiversity but also the long tradition of wine growing in the municipality.
The manifest is signed by the following 7 wineries:
- ALMAVID-BODEGA LÓPEZ CAMPOS
- ON THE GROUND
- ARRAYÁN WINERY
- BODEGA BORBOTÓN
- JIMÉNEZ-LANDI WINERY
- GRAPE OF LIFE PROJECT
- MENTRIDANA WINERY
In this way, Bodegas Jiménez-Landi and the other 6 signatory wineries support the association Salvemos los Campos that demands to the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha and the Regulatory Council of the DO Méntrida concrete actions to protect our terroir and in opposition to the aforementioned photovoltaic macro-projects.
